Casita Completea, and off to Mexico

It’s Thursday; Tuesday evening we came back from an evening in Portland and the casita (ADU) was complete and cleaned up. YAY! Yesterday we started ‘moving’. We won’t move in until our return from our travels in Mexico but I started moving bathroom and kitchen stuff we don’t need on a daily basis. It is like playing house. It is so much fun after living with construction dust and debris. Ron worked on moving some of our stored boxes to the garage. He has been building shelves and they are starting to fill up. We also have several metal shelves in one of the bedrooms where we have stored our 63 boxes of stuff. We will work on moving today and tomorrow in between cleaning the house. Wayne and Dana will stay here part of the time we are gone.





We have packed for our Mexico trip where the temps may go into the 40’s at night and up to the high 70’s during the day. Sunscreen is packed as we will be at an altitude of 6,000 ft. in San Miguel de Allende (SMA). We leave the house around 7:00 p.m. Friday night for a 10:00 direct flight to Guadalajara. It is only a five-hour flight, a snap for two geezers who are used to 25-34 hour air travel trips.

We will be met by our Portland neighbor, Brad, who will take us to his home on Lake Chapala in Ajijic. We will have the day with him showing us around town. His home has a great view of the lake and we are excited to see Ajijic. Apparently, there is a sizable ex-pat community there that has created restaurants, boutiques, and galleries which is unusual for a small town in Mexico. Brad leaves on March 1st for Portland and we will stay at his home until the 10th when we will take a bus to SMA.

May 29 Times flies. Ron and I have managed to stay busy with lots of yard work; weeding, planting, shoveling, and sifting soil from a 20 ft. yucca bed we dug up to plant with something more attractive. Sifting soil on 3ft X 4ft screen is hard work and we are halfway from completing it. Ron had surgery on his arm about 10 days ago. He had a nerve near his elbow that was being stretched, causing numbness, tingling in his hand and arm pain. The surgeon moved the nerve away from the elbow to relieve the symptoms. Ron is now restricted from any heavy physical work. Making a plan for escape, changes, and getting home

March 16 We woke up and had breakfast. Ron took off for a haircut a few blocks away. I read the NY Times briefing regarding the falling stock market. YIKES! The landlord and her helper came over and brought a five-gallon bottle of water for the dispenser. After Ron returned, we walked across town to Fabrica Aurora, a former textile mill that was converted into a high-end shopping area with multiple art galleries and wonderful shops. We drooled at the artwork and products being sold but didn’t buy.  Ron took some photos, then we sat down in an outdoor eatery for lunch. We have been to this market many times in previous visits and the crowds were thinner than usual. Two couples near our table were chatting and I heard them say they were leaving early. The state of Guanajuato where we are has no reported cases of the virus. That doesn’t mean there are no cases. Taking a drive and making a home

April 28 On Saturday we decided we needed to get out of the house. Usually, when we leave the house it is to go to the grocery or hardware store. Like everyone else that is life during the virus. Saturday we took a drive out to the Columbia Gorge, a beautiful drive on the Washington side of the river, a small winding two-lane road. We stopped to take a couple of photos overlooking the river and farms. After an hour of driving, we cross the river into Oregon at Hood River and we pulled off the freeway and took another two-lane road towards Portland. We pulled off the road and ate our picnic deli lunch in the car since it was still raining. Like everyone else, our hair is in need of a salon and a cut.
